Praying for Health

It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver- Gandhi

III John 1:2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in HEALTH, just as your soul prospers.

God told me at the beginning of the year, I think our Watch Service that every thing that I needed to know in life was in the Bible. Health is very dear issue for me because I have struggled with it most of my life, I was a very sick child, my mother had pneumonia while pregnant with me, I was three weeks behind on my due date and my umbilical cord was squeezing the life out of me during my birth, so I my mom had a c-section. I was diagnosed with asthma, hypoglycemia, severe allergies and always had severe migraines. When I got pregnant with my son, I was very sick, so sick in fact that the doctors could not figure out what was wrong with me. I to had a c-section with my son and he too is diagnosed with asthma, bronchitis, and has a tendency to get a least six ear aches a year.  I’m saying all this to say, before I had my son, I was a thin 142, I was 16 and still battling. I’m 23 and in between those years until the last eight months, I had no clue. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been up and down and all around with health and wellness. Either I didn’t stay dedicated or I would only go half way with it. I was praying about me being healthy for ministry and asking God what to do. I think it was maybe a day or two later. I come across Heather Lindsey and her being a vegetarian, I can’t remember if it was an blog or about her devotion and recipe book but I remember the spirit saying, “You should do that.”  I said what Lord, “Become a vegetarian.” Funny thing is I have a best friend that had been talking about it for months and me and another one of our good friends would mess with her about it. So I said I was going to start on a certain date and do it for so many weeks just to slide into it. It never happened. It was January 10th 2015, when I went cold turkey. I just gave up meat totally and have no desire for it. My mom’s instructions for her was to bake her her foods, not that she had to become a vegetarian but to change the way she cooked her foods.

Many people don’t understand but God created you, He knew you before your parents thought or didn’t think about making you. He knows your strengths and weaknesses, your cool buttons and your hot buttons. Jeremiah 29:11 says ‘I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.’ Luke 12:7 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are more valuable than many sparrows.

Psalm 8:4 says ‘What is man that You are mindful (consider) of him, And the son of man that you visit him? We are on God’s mind, He considers the way we live, he wants to help us. I had to learn this, I wanted to be healthy to be able to share the Good News of Christ Jesus. I asked God what I should do in order to reach that goal and carry out His mission. He gave me the answer. Go vegetarian, I was sliding towards that way anyway and had considered it because I had done it before for a few weeks when getting ready for my senior prom. When I say I was sliding towards vegetarian, I mean I had already cut out beef. ( I was not raised on pork and pigs don’t look healthy to eat to me anyways, lol, what they are cute as babies.) I ate mostly birds; turkey, chicken. Along with certain fish and lamb occasionally. The nitty- gritty, God was helping me cut my diet. I use to love shrimp, I just thought it was the pearl in the clam to eat. I could eat a lot of it. About two years ago I was staying in Alabama and dating this guy and we went out one night to a local restaurant and sitting on the back of the tailgate, he told me to look down. My legs had swollen up, all I could do was go back to my cousins place and rest. I had eaten shrimp for a while and had very little reaction to it, a slight headache, which I thought was from the seasonings. Even after becoming a vegetarian certain things my body just could not and cannot tolerate. I am learning every single day to eat healthier to workout, to drink more water, to eat more vegetables, fruits, beans, grains, and to include God in it all. I know there is a lot of new age going around but God has all the answers, everything that has taken them years too discover, it takes a few conversations with God to know.

I want to encourage you to pray and ask God what you should do about your health. There are some common sense things that we already know but if you struggle like I have struggled with up and down weight, health issues, and anything else, pray about it. The most beautiful result of eating and living a healthier lifestyle is clarity. You can concentrate longer, sleep better, focus on God, and hear God better. It’s like all that foggy vision you had starts to clear up. Satan doesn’t want us to hear God period and he knows that our health can play a big part in that. Saints its time for a healthier lifestyle.

News flash: If my grandmother cooks I still eat but not everything but because I love my grandma’s cooking and I do pick and choose what I can and cannot eat of even her cooking.

Keep in mind that eating healthy is not boring. There are so many recipes you can come up with and this day and age, you can go to so many different websites, like Pinterest, WordPress, Facebook, or Google plenty of healthy and tasty recipes for you and your family. When you make these changes, you have to change the way you buy food, how you cook it. Spring clean your cabinets, refrigerator, pantry.

One more example before I go, my dad and parents still cook pretty hearty but they use a lot of healthier ingredients. They have went from regular table salt to sea salt, refined sugar to Sugar in the Raw, they buy actual juice and not the artificially flavored. My favorite seasonings are slowly taking over their cabinets and they don’t to much buy their old ones. My pastor always tells us this, ‘when your requirement changes, your environment changes.’ I am certainly requiring a different environment and it has to change. Even my friends eat a little healthier and I am grateful because we go out to eat every time we all get together. They ask me now where can we go eat, where I am comfortable. You may just be that influence in your friends, family, people you come in contact with every day. Pray about it and see what God would have you to do. Phil 4:6 in the New Living Translation says it perfectly, ‘Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.’ It is an every day fight, it does get easier but you will always have challenges. I love ice cream, cheese, hot chips and honey buns and every now and then I get a taste for a snickers sometimes I indulge other times I have to say No. I should say no all the time and one day I will get to that point I can say no all the time. Until I will fight the good fight of healthy living just as I fight the good fight of faith. I put my faith and my healthy lifestyle together and every day and every time I surpass one obstacle another shows up. So don’t be discouraged if you fail this time, get back up and keep going, keep going until  you finish the race!

Romans 12:2, And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God

Trading Places

2 Corinthians 8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.

I don’t know if you all have seen or remember this movie with Eddie Murphy called Trading Places, where they make the rich guy poor and the poor guy take his place, but in the end they both become rich.

Well in church today, our pastor called up all those who suffered with depression. I most certainly went up because I am not ashamed to admit, that I deal with it. It is lesser when I focus on Jesus and I believe I am completely healed. In the moments of worship, so gently but so reassuring almost like a vision, Jesus said to me, ‘I wore the crown of thorns so you could wear the crown of Glory.’ In the vision He showed me, Him putting the crown of thorns on His head and putting a golden crown on my head. That broke me, I forget, we forget that God has counted us worthy. It is so humbling to know that He came to trade places with me and in the end we are both winning.

I love people and I love people to know that they belong to a royal priesthood and we are co-heirs with Christ Jesus. My hearts desire is to please God and help people to know who they truly are through His blood and by His name. Jesus traded places and bore every sin that you would ever commit. God is the one person I can totally vouch for, that he will never leave you, nor forsake you. God’s thoughts are higher than our thoughts and ways higher than ours. I love the way David see us through God’s eyes in this translation*.

Psalm 8:4-8 New Living Translation

what are mere mortals that you should think about them,
human beings that you should care for them?
Yet you made them only a little lower than God
and crowned them with glory and honor.
You gave them charge of everything you made,
putting all things under their authority—
the flocks and the herds
    and all the wild animals,
the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea,
and everything that swims the ocean currents.

Jesus scarified His life for us, so that we can return to our rightful stance. To be kings and queens in the kingdom. I encourage you to not only know that Jesus traded places with you, but know that He has found you worthy enough to die for you, His love is unfailing. Thank You Jesus for all that you have done. I am so unworthy but You have seen me worthy.

John 15:13-14 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.

If My People Prayed, Oh How the World Will Change!

II Chronicles 7:14 “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

Psalm 77:6 I call to remembrance my song in the night; I meditate within my heart, and my spirit makes diligent search.

Duet 6:18;21 Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as front-lets between your eyes. 21 that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers to them, like the days of the heavens above the earth.

I was watching a well-known teacher on television and he said, his father told him that he should say the Lord’s prayer before his initial prayer and he asked why. His father told him that it covers everything that could ever be prayed. That was two or three years ago. I just started applying it to my life more faithfully. The more I study the ‘Lord’s Prayer’, the more I say it, I know exactly why his father said it before every prayer. I don’t know exactly how he did it but I break it down in sections. I want to share this break down with you because one thing I know is that God is faithful and even my groaning, my tears, hurt is lifted up to him. In my Bible it has a titled section and Matthew 6:9-13 is labeled the model prayer. The model prayer is an example, a guide to how to do something. Prayer is a conversation between me and God and the only way to have a clear conversation with the Creator is to talk with him and listen.

A prayer life is very important for the relationship building that happens between you and God. Sometimes we talk throughout the whole prayer and never let the Lord answer back, we never listen to his instructions and all this is in the prayer that Jesus prayed for us to follow.

Verse 9, “In this manner therefore pray;

Our Father in Heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

When we go into someone’s house we greet them. In my grandma’s house when I go see her. I say hi and I give her a kiss to greet her. I’ve acknowledged her in her own house and honored her by loving on her. The beginning of this prayer does just the same. Stepping into prayer we should acknowledge Him, and be aware this is His house that we have come to have a conversation with Him. Hallowed (to make holy; greatly revered)* is letting it be known that He is respected, there is no one like Him. No God like my God. I go through a list of names and features that describe how He is to me. I may say that He is holy, merciful, loving, pure, righteous, the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, omnipotent, etc. Every parent wants to be loved on as they love their children and I’m loving on Him, admiring Him for all that He has done for me and He didn’t have to do any of it for me.

Verse 10, “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.

I think I’ve been one of those who have never really paid attention to this scripture as I should have. God wants us to have the kingdom experience right here on earth. What is the kingdom? Romans 14:17 ‘for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.’ Galatians 5:22-23;25;5 says ‘the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 25; If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.  Going back to Galatians 5:5 it puts it simple. For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.’ God will show you how to have the kingdom experience on earth by the Spirit. Luke 17:21 “nor will they say, See here! or See there! For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.”

Verse 11, “Give us this day our daily bread.”

Lord give me the instruction for my life this very day in each moment. Is exactly what I say along with this scripture. I will share the scriptures that I use along with this verse. Psalm 90:12 So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. 1 Corinthians 2:10 “But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes the deep things of God.”

Verse 12, “And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.”

Forgiveness is most important in this walk with God. It is the hardest thing to do at times because it is a spirit of offense that drives it. Saying this prayer has taught me to forgive daily and usually right after something happens because I don’t want anything or person, or myself blocking my prayers. I am young mom and I am also single. I blamed my mother for ruining my relationship with my son’s father. I also blamed my son’s father for hurting me after we tried to make it work and it didn’t because of other things. I was 17 and until about three years ago I let that rule over me. I took no responsibility and further more I hated my self for making a dumb decision, letting my morals fall, and just ‘messing up my future with someone I had no future with.’ As I grew in Christ and he revealed Himself to me, more and more, I took lessons instead of pain. I may stumble and fall but I will get back up. I learned to forgive not for anyone; because most times people have no clue you are holding anything against them. I learned to forgive so that I may prevail in the things of God, so that the hate that I had for others and myself could be let go and that He could cleanse me. Luke 17:3-4 Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day returns to you, saying, ‘I repent,’ you shall forgive him.”  Matthew 5:44-45 “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,’ that you may be sons if your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.  Matthews 6:14-15 goes further and bluntly says (paraphrased) Forgive others so that God can forgive you and if you don’t forgive others that sin against you, that He cannot forgive you of your sins and trespasses.

Verse 13, “And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one…’

1 Corinth 10:13 ‘ No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. In Genesis, God told Cain that sins desire was to have him but he should have rule over it. So if the Spirit is urging you to get out of a place you probably know you aren’t suppose to be. Be like Joseph and flee because when you resist, walk away from sin, like Jesus was able to overcome the temptations of the devil after being in the desert (Matthews 4). He will flee from you! He wants an easy battle, someone who will bend under his temptations but stand on the Word and that conviction of the Holy Spirit and you will be delivered from the evil one.

Verse 13…’ For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

All of it belongs to God. The Kingdom He is the One who sits on the Throne (Rev. 4:2-5). The power of (Job 9:4), belongs to Him. The glory belongs to Him (Isaiah 58:8) Forever. So be it!

Prayer changes us, it allows us to commune with the Father. Being open and honest and being yourself with God is okay. He knows every hurt, issue, and cry that you have. I’m learning every day, that no matter how busy I am even if it’s ten minutes instead of the two hours, that my prayer made a difference in my life, my child’s life, a complete strangers life. Prayer is like oxygen to me, I cannot live without it. It’s my lifeline and if I cut it off, I will surely die.
