Collected Hope

How do we collect hope for the things of God? It is the same as “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.” (Romans 10:17)

I was asking God about my faith being strengthened in my weak areas, the areas I tend to fall most. In some areas my faith is way up and others not so much. In that very search He showed me something more about remembering how he brought me out so many other times and how my faith increased in those other areas that were way up.

When we hear the Word of God, (reading out loud is what I tend to do), it builds up that Spirit man on the inside of us. So I like to think collecting hope is remembering how He moved in our lives and people around us and those we read about in the 66 love letters of the Bible. In the Jewish tradition many children start at young age learning the Shema.

In the Shema in verses Deuteronomy 6:6-9 it says, “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up 8 You shall bind the as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as front lets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

It’s a constant reminder, not only for themselves but also to be put before each generation, to never forget who God is. It gives hope, builds faith, that the same God that did it for their great- great grand parents, can do it for them in that very moment. He is God and He changes not and His children are just that His.

Hope in definition by Merriam-Webster- is to cherish a desire with anticipation or trust. My son will be seven in February and he does not let me forget it. Disney Land is what I have planned for him next summer because I believe that He will enjoy it a lot more at a little older age. Even though he has not been to Disney Land and has no proof that he is going, he anticipates it, he talks about it all the time, he tells his cousins about it and he is genuinely excited about going to Disney Land. My son is looking forward to somethings, one of his cousins went this past summer and so now he is really excited because someone else had so much fun. He has never ever experienced it but because his cousin has, it has blown the top of his hope. Matthew 18:2, (paraphrased) ‘Jesus called a little child to him and told the people if they didn’t convert and become as little children, they wouldn’t enter the kingdom of heaven.’ You can tell a child something that can change their life and they will not forget it, when it happens, they will talk about it forever. It’s a memory they will not ever forget. It’s some things in my life that God has already given me a word for, even my weak areas. Joel 3:10 …’Let the weak say,’I am strong.’ Isaiah 40:29 and 31 ‘He gives power to the weak, And to those who who have no might He increases strength.’ ‘But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.’ Hebrews 11:1 ‘Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.’ I love breaking down words and phrases, I have a great example to follow my Pastor. I officially have collected four Bibles behind this studying (lol) and one I downloaded was the Orthodox Jewish Bible and it reads in Hebrews 11:1, ‘Now Emunah is the substance of things which we have tikvah. Emunah is the conviction of things seen not.’ After looking up each meaning I read it like this, ‘Now steadfastness/ perseverance is the form or solidity of things which we have collected hope. Steadfastness/ perseverance is the firm belief of things not seen.

Last week was really my first full week back in church, I worked out of town for about six weeks and before then the job I had before; it was my weekend to work, so I missed service then as well. So to come back into my study and it line up with what my Pastor is teaching on made my heart leap literally. It was a lot of things said on Wednesday night and Sunday service that totally made this particular post just hit right in the heart. I’ll give you a few highlights that touched my heart:

Wednesday Night:  ‘Trust God, versus what people say and how you feel, keep looking for the good.’ ‘Learn how to let your spirit man take over.’ ‘When you are in the spirit, you are years ahead.’ Sunday Morning: The Word works all by itself.’ ‘When the Word is spoken, take heed to it.’ 3 C’s: Communion (communicating by listening and speaking). Command (speak over your life: bind and loose) Commitment (stay consistent). Shower of Power service: ‘Don’t mind the things of the flesh- but keep your attention on the things of the Spirit. -Pastor S. Vincent Johnson

So I may not see the physical manifestation but when I read the Word of God and see how He parted the Red Sea when Moses stepped into faith, how He ensured David to kill the giant and his brothers, and Elijah called down fire from heaven. When I read about Jesus healing the sick, raising the dead, feeding the thousands, casting out demons. I get hope for the lost when I read about Saul, being blinded on the road to Damascus and recovering his sight only to  become a follower of Christ Jesus, teaching and preaching. I get hope and my faith is overflowing not only for my sake but for every person I come in contact with. Hope is essential for your Faith walk, it gives you that vision board whenever God puts something in your heart to do. It’s that constant reminder that He has down this before and He will do it again. When I see God fearing marriages, progressing and putting God at the head of the household, I have just collected hope in my heart building up my faith. Talking to God about my future comes to me easier, listening to His direction isn’t difficult.

I want you and me together to continue collecting hope, by reading, studying the Word, get around some like minded individuals that want to see you walk on water!!

Philippians 4:8

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
